I am considering buying a 1996 955 with FEL. The hours are unknown but supposed to be low. My guess would be 600 - 800, but I will find out actual time later in the week. The price is $7500. This sounds good but, I am a rookie. My questions are:

Is this a good price?
What are my choices with respect to othe attachments?
i.e. Backhoe model, size of landscape boxes, etc...
Any addittional comments or advice.

Thanks,
Greg

Greg -

depending on the condition and hours, this looks to be a good price based on what I've seen.

there are several people on the board who can give a better idea as to attachments, etc.

good luck

On the surface the price sounds good but I'm wondering if it has a mower or not, has a front end loader or not....
At that price I would not be surprised if it is a bare tractor with no attachments. Even if it is, it is a very good price for a very good 4wd tractor, imo. You can forget about finding a used JD brand front end loader or mid mount mower for it. You can probably still buy those new but the prices will floor you. I think this boils down to the constant question asked of prospective first time buyers, "what are you going to do with the tractor?" If you need a front end loader or mid mount mower, you might want to keep looking.

Thanks Stan / Don,

The tractor definitely has a front end loader and does not have any other implements.

I am going to use it to help clear five acres and then maintain it. I really am going do this a little at a time and never truly clear the whole five acres but, I am going to use it tyo clear building sites and put in the yard and that sort of stuff.

I don't know if I am going to want a mid mount mower but that is still down the road a ways.

Greg -

I assumed that since you didn't mention a loader at that price there wasn't one. My personal estimate just went from good price to "gee, I wish I found that one".

Now, if you can hold it up to the monitor, we can all help judge the condition...LOL ....

Stan,

Well, the deal is sounding better all the time! I will just need to come up with the MONEY! And then of course a used box blade, or...

I am trying to get a couple of pics of the tractor now and will try to look at it this weekend. It is starting to look like I could buy it, use it for a few years and sell it for what I have in it. Does that sound about right?

I'm F A R from an expert, but from what I've seen and heard, you are right. Its actually the plan that got me permission to by a tractor, the fact that we could sell it off if we had to. I know saeveral prople around me that have done this, getting use of a compact for little money when all is said and done.

Greg!
That price is a steal, given the facts as you have laid them out. Yes, you should be able to use it for a couple of years and sell it for what you paid, or more, if that is your plan.
I would hustle up the money real quick if I was you.

Great, thanks for the advice. I am having a hard time hooking up with the owner.... but, I think it will happen. I am trying to see it today, if it is what it is supposed to be, I am going to get it!
